Joy is a composer and sound artist from North Dorset, currently based in Manchester.

Incorporating influences from contemporary British folk music, spectral music and field recording practices, Joy has come to focus on the exploration of landscape, environment and ecology in their compositional practice. Their most recent piece of this type, ilk, won the 2021 Berwick Music Series’ International Composition Competition. Joy’s love of sonic world-building also stems from their love of games; in 2020 they won Best Game in the Women in Games annual game jam for the visual novel Yllke and Nour made in collaboration with artist and games design student Juliette Chatenier (@J_a_y_J_u on twitter).

They studied History and Music at the University of Leeds and have recently completed an MMus in Critical and Experimental Composition.
