Fiodorow 76.35 2019 for Kathryn Williams (solo flute and audio)

Fiodorow 76.35 2019 was a piece written for flautist Kathryn Williams’s Coming Up for Air project.

‘Coming Up for Air explores the creative possibilities that emerge when pieces are limited to the performance of a single breath. Initially formed as a personal response to recovering from chronic respiratory conditions, the project invites composers to consider their own relationship to breath and the body's role in performance. The collection currently contains over 100 pieces and celebrates its inclusivity of composers of diverse ages, experience, and background.’ [from Williams’s website]

Fiodorow 76.35 2019 uses audio from Joanna Fiodorow’s hammer throw at the 2019 World Athletics Championship and playfully asks the performer to ‘act out’ the throw as well as Fiodorow’s screams of triumph in the wake of making the best throw of her career.
